first, to address the depressing part…you two should take a whole day and go through all of your belongings and absolutely gather everything you don’t need (things you haven’t used in years!) and donate them or sell them if you can (try craigslist, it’s free or have a yard sale). then clean and reorganize. seriously, you’ll feel so much better when you do.
second, creating more space starts with one thing…good closets. if your closets have a lot of shelves and spaces for different sized things, you’re in the money. you can find things to make your closet a magical one at wal-mart (really inexpensive, yet really effective!) or the home depot.

There are a couple of different TV shows that do room makeovers and/or help you organize. One of them is on TLC – Trading Spaces.
