Is Adultery Still Illegal In South Carolina? If So, Is Sanford Possibly Going To Face Charges?

Adultery is still illegal in South Carolina. However since none of the Governor’s extra-marital affairs took place within the boundaries of the state he can’t be charged.

  1. Actually, it turns out that adultery is illegal in the state of South Carolina, due to a law made back in the late 1800’s (1894 if I remember correctly).
The law says that any South Carolinian who commits adultery, no matter where he or she did it, is subject to a large fine and one year of jail.
So he COULD face charges. However, that law has not been enforced since 1904, so I doubt he will face charges.

  2. If it is then sodomy laws are probably still on the books. I guess the courts will be full of all kinds of folks huh?

  3. very funny. x]
