as if Obama made Gov. Sanford fly to Argentina and covertly fall into some woman’s heine, all in an effort to “distract” the nation from Obama…

My guess is that while everyone’s attention is on Sanford, the heat is off Obama. This is politics no matter who the president is. Clinton and Bush also made use of distractions on during their terms.

Let me ask you a question…Does it bother you at all that ABC gave editorial power to the White House? Seriously? You are so quick to blast Fox but where are you on ABC? Who really IS fair and balanced?
If an FBI raid uncovered that he also had child pornography on his computer, the Republican Party and all of their affiliates would still find ways to weasel out of making an issue about it, or coming to terms with the shortcomings of one of their own. They never face the facts, or admit to being hypocrites. Note that the Republicans have never even taken responsibility for the War in Iraq (WMD’s my ***), destroying the nations economy in 8 years, and absolutely erasing the 4th Amendment of the Constitution with the Patriot Act.
For the most part, Republicans supporters are either too dumb to ever realize what’s going on, or too inflamed with envying the party. Either of the two don’t even realize who it is that they are rooting for in the first place. Therefore, Fox News can step in, and reinforce people’s questionable feelings with concrete media-logic, which works for the most part. That’s how you can get people all riled up about free health care for children, and the proposition of providing health care to those who wouldn’t be in a position to have it (if that’s socialism, then so is the Police Dept., the FBI, the IRS, etc.).
The fact of the matter is, Republicans and the Right-Wing media have gone into hyper-critical overdrive, because they’re in danger of losing nearly all their power. Understand that politics is a game of survival, and most who play the game are in it for themselves, first and foremost. Their opposition to “Outrageous Spending” has little basis most of the time, when you look at their recent track record. When there aren’t enough Republicans to filibuster laws that don’t benefit themselves, then the Democrats will be able to pass laws and enforce new policies without facing their arch rivals. But then the Democrats may take just as much advantage of the American people once they’re in a position to do so (like Bush and his cronies were in 2000).

Here is the Fox news story on Sanford. Nowhere in this story does it mention the word “distract” and Obama in the context you mention. This news report contains the same information that other news outlets (including liberal-leaning CNN and MSNBC) have been reporting.

The media is eating it up–sex sells–and I can’t imagine that Washington is anything but happy about it. People are challenging Obama as of late, especially in regards to health care and obviously because of the amount of money being spent these days, so naturally, any break Barry can get, he’ll take.
It happens all the time, with every administration, every Congress and every scandal. Heck, come election time, there’s so much smoke and mirrors caused by all of the smear stories / scandals, people can barely even tell who they’re voting for anymore.
