Since the walls are concrete, anything involving nails or tacks is impossible. Also, we are not allowed to paint the walls. The carpet is short and a boring multicolored blue.

My boyfriend and I just moved here a couple of months ago, and we are having a hard time coming up with decorating ideas. We really don’t want to resort to taping up band posters and making it look like a dorm, although we are college students (19 years old). We also do not have a whole lot of money to work with.

I just want to brighten up the place and add some personality to it. Any ideas about how I can do this with limited resources and funds?

After 29 years of living in homes that I didn’t own, or wasn’t the primary renter of, or that was government owned (such as the barracks).

And now, I need some serious ideas for color schemes. For the most part, I know the type of furniture that I want (sectional sofa with sleeper and recliner, king bed, and a bunk bed in the spare bedroom), and I’m trying to get wooden pieces to match the kitchen cabinets as best as I can. But I don’t know what colors to choose.

My first choice is “every shade” of brown, with gold and deep-red pieces. The walls and floors of the apartment will be pure white or off-white. I own two dogs and a cat, and all of their furniture (beds, cat tree, etc.) ranges from ivory and tan to brown and chocolate. I was thinking maybe a light tan-colored sofa with deep-red and gold curtains. The kitchen would be the same with red accents (canister set, dishes, etc.). The Master bedroom and bathroom would possibly have it’s own scheme, but the second bedroom and bathroom would be the same red/tan coloration.

Does this color scheme sound like it would work? Do you have any other suggestions? Is there anything you would suggest that I be on the look out for, such as getting items that are too dark or light? I’m assuming with white walls and floors that a splash of bold color (the deep red) will be almost necessary…

Please keep in mind that any changes made cannot be permanent, since I rent. I’d also like ideas for creating more storage space, if possible. Thanks in advance!

I have a pretty good idea for decorating… but I need simple, CHEAP diy type stuff. The cheaper the better… seriously! My apartment is big and I am running out of ideas!

Like I said, this is my first apartment that is completely mine. No roommates or anything like that. I am looking to decorate it, but I am on a very tight budget. I am allowed to paint the walls, (thank goodness, because right now they are a hideous mix between cantelaupe and poo.) What are some good color combinations, and fun, cute ways to decorate.
*Note: Ideas for things that could double as storage would be great as well…there is only one small closet.

I am moving into my first apartment next semester, and am thinking ahead to decorating ideas. The apartment is already furnished with generic uninspired furniture which I am planning on hiding with well placed blankets and doilies (but hey, at least I don’t have to buy furniture…). I am only allowed to put three nails in the walls for pictures and such (how generous of them, I know). Ideas for functional or decorative items that I could make or buy cheaply would be great. I’ve got a new apartment taht is virtually a blank canvas… All white walls and even a creme colored sofa… I’m not worrying about the kitchen yet, but I do want to go ahead and decorate my living, bed, and bathroom… If you have any ideas or know where I can find any accessories that fit what I am looking for, please let me know!
For the Bedroom, I was thinking pink and green and white…. Though I’m not sure where I could find a comforter and accessories and which should be my main color and which should be accents..
For the livingroom… I don’t know, I was thinking the whole jungle//palm tree look that is so in right now? But again, I’m at a loss for how to pull it off and where to find the stuff to decorate it reasonably.
For the bathroom… I’ve posted asking for help, but only got two answers. I’m really open for whatever I guess. Things I DONT WANT– Navy blue, duckies, froggies, flowers.
